2. Meditation Brings Confirmation! Psalm 77:5-13

Text: “I will meditate also of all Thy work, and talk of Thy doings.  Thy WAY, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?”

Psalm 77:12-13.

“Jesus saith unto him (Thomas) I am the WAY, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.”

John 14:6.

Good morning, meditating Christian!  Not enough for you and for me a mere light, cursory reading of our KJV Bibles.  No!  A light superficial reading of the inspired Word of God is not in our hearts to do – we have enjoyed the ‘milk’ of God’s good Word as babes in Christ, but now, as the Lord God has permitted us to ‘…grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ…’, we are hungry for the ‘meat’ of the Word of the Lord God.

Meditations on what we earnestly read from God’s Word are, therefore, vital if we are to gain a more certain confirmation of our God-given faith in Christ Jesus.  The faithful Bereans are commended for such diligent mediations of God’s Word.

“And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.  These (Bereans) were more noble that those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind (ready to apply what they were being taught from God’s Word), and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so (checked what they were being taught, by personal search of the Scriptures).” (Acts 17:10-11)

Verse 5. “I have considered (meditated upon) the days of old, the years of ancient times. Is this not, exactly, what you and I are involved in, when studying our Bibles?  We are considering how the Living Lord God worked with ‘His people’ down through the generations of time, and by doing so, finding confirmation of His loving care and grace towards Hell-deserving sinners just like ourselves.  Such confirmation brings faith anew.

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed (at lack of faith and knowledge of the Divine), rightly dividing the Word of truth.”         (2 Timothy 2:15)

“So then, faith cometh by hearing (studying/reading the Word of God), and hearing by the Word of God.”  (Romans 10:17)

Christians, young in the faith must commence absorption of the Gospel of Christ Crucified and arisen in glory as a babe would its mother’s milk.  Sirloin steaks are not recommended as baby-food, nor are profound doctrinal studies crammed down the throats of Christians new to ‘…the faith once delivered unto the saints…’ (Jude 3) Meditate on this for a moment.

“As new-born babes, desire the sincere milk of the Word, that ye may grow thereby: if so ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.”  (1 Peter 2:2-3)

Pastors, Deacons, and Sunday School Teachers often do a wonderful ministry to children, young people, and mature adults who have more recently come to Salvation in Christ Jesus.

However, far too many today, in the church worldwide and international, have no doubt received the great Gospel of Salvation, yet for some reasons have remained as babes in Christ, taking in continually a diet of ‘milk’ from God’s Word.  In this manner, the church international consists, in too many cases, as a large group of Spiritual babes in Christ, instead of growing "…in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”!   Babes are so easy to lead astray, to confuse, and can become lazy and unable to take care of themselves in a cruel world, never mind fight in a relentless, and unmerciful Spiritual Battle.

Here is what the apostle Paul (whom I believe penned the Book of Hebrews) had to say on this vital matter in his day. Meditate on this, dear Reader: meditate and confirm faith:

"Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Therefore, leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will we do, if God permit." (Hebrews 5:11-6:3)

Paul is encouraging the church to progress from ‘the milk of the Word’ to absorption of ‘…strong meat…’, with ‘…senses exercised to discern both good and evil.’  Meditation of what one studies in God’s Word will very soon commence a maturing of all engaged, that we might all take an active-service role in the Spiritual Battle for Christ’s glorious Kingdom.

Look now, and meditate a little on the deeper questions Asaph is asking himself and all who will hear/sing his song:

“Will the Lord cast off for ever? Is His mercy clean gone for ever? Doth His promises fail for evermore? Hath God forgotten to be gracious?  Hath He in anger shut up His tender mercies?” (Psalm 77:7-9)

Can you see what Asaph is doing? He is considering, mediating, asking the vital questions each of us, as Christians, should be asking ourselves, and the Lord while reading/studying His inspired Word!  Ask the questions – the Lord will always give us the answers!  Thus, we grow in grace and knowledge necessary to be soldiers of Christ Jesus and exalters of His Holy and Victorious Name.  All glory to the Lord – Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Thought: Learning how the Lord dealt with ‘His people’ down through Bible history, will confirm how He will deal with us today, our God is unchangeable and ever gracious.  Meditate on the Word; confirm your faith; grow in God’s grace.
