3. SEE the Works of God! Psalm 66:5-7

Text: “Come and SEE the works of God: He is terrible in His doing toward the children of men.”

Psalm 66:5.

Good morning, clear-sighted Christian!  You and I are fearfully and wonderfully constituted within the Body of Christ Jesus – for we can see with ears and eyes, all the wonderous works of the Lord God Who has redeemed our never-dying souls through Christ Jesus.  Hallelujah!  Let us remind ourselves often of the wonderous works of our God!

“The Heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth His handiwork.  Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge.  There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.” (Psalm 19:1-3)

God’s ‘…doing towards the children of men…’ can be clearly seen, as it was literally seen in Old and New Testament times, by those whom, by the inspiration, guidance, and direction of God the Holy Spirit, were ordained of the Living Lord to record the Holy Scriptures.  As in all of my Bible expositions, I have God’s own Word – Divine chapter and verse authority - on this subject.

“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation.  For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”  (2 Peter 1:20-21)

We Bible teachers/preachers cannot at any time merely give out our own verbal or written opinions, or schools of thought, on any such important matter as Eternal Salvation, Spiritual direction; or doctrinal practice and belief.  No!  We must at all times speak/teach/write only what the Spirit of the Living Lord God directs and inspires us to set forth.  God’s Word alone is truth!

“Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy Word is truth.” (John 17:17)

Verse 6. “He turned the sea into dry land.  The Psalmist was not only inspired of God’s Spirit to write this Scripture, he had the recorded annals of Moses himself, still in existence, to encourage him to SEE the works of God!

Moses had stood on the edge of the Red Sea, saw the humanly impossible passage before him and the children of Israel as they fled from the wicked Pharaoh.  Yet, the Lord parted the waters when he stretched forth his rod, and, therefore, ‘…They went through the flood on foot…’, after God ‘…turned the sea into dry land…’!  Hallelujah!

Through the eye-witness accounts of God’s chosen chroniclers, you and I as Christian believers can actually SEE the works of God.  We SEE such wonders because we look through the eye of God-given faith.  What a joy to behold such works!

“But lift thou (Moses) up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.”  (Exodus 14:16)

“And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.”  (Exodus 14:21)

Now, ask yourself, beloved Reader: is it any wonder that Moses and the children of Israel ‘…rejoiced in Him.’? (V.6)

Verse 6. “There did we rejoice in Him. A much greater miracle is that men should pass over the bitter sea of this life and cross the river of mortality that never ceases to run and which swallows up and drowns so many and still come safe and alive to the land of Eternal promise, and there rejoice in God Himself, beholding Him face to face; and yet this greater miracle is so accomplished by God that many pass through this sea as if it were dry land and cross this river with dry feet.”  (Robert Bellarmine (1542-1621)

At this time of global plague, and Covid virus casualties – I personally believe, that our Holy and Living Lord God is either, sending this divesting plague or, at least, in His complete Sovereignty over all things – permitting it to ravish the world in His wrath against the Christ-rejecting nations and those wallowing in the mire of Sodomy and unbelief. The eyes of our Holy Lord God are, in fact, beholding the nations, and He is appalled by what His Holy vision sees.

Verse 7. “He ruleth by His power forever.  The Lord God Jehovah, Creator of all things, is a Sovereign Lord God Who rules over all things, people, situations, and circumstances, and works all things to the tune of His own Sovereign will and purpose.  Any other being would not be worthy of worship, obedience, or praise.

“For by Him were all things created, that are in Heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: and He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.  And He is the Head of the Body, the church…”  (Colossians 1:16-18)

Verse 7.  “His eyes behold the nations. This should give check to much iniquity.  Can a man’s conscience easily and delightfully swallow that which he is sensible falls under the cognizance of God, when it is hateful to the eye of His holiness and renders the action odious to Him?”  (Stephen Charnock 1628-1680)

Verse 7. “Let not the rebellious exalt themselves.  This is a dire warning to any such rebellious soul, a soul that might dare to endeavour to shake a puny human fist at the power of the Almighty Lord God – yet, so many today, in this increasingly apostate and rebelliously sinful 21st Century, seem to be doing just that!  What a doom awaits them!  What a come down is looming so inevitably before them!  Pathetic is their unbelief!

“For we know Him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto Me, I will recompense, saith the Lord.  And again, The Lord shall judge His people.  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God.” (Hebrews 10:30-31)

With the eyes of God-given faith, we believers can actually SEE the works of the Lord God!  Seeing such wonders, and fully believing in the power of the Living God – how can we do anything else but be filled to the full with a Holy joy unspeakable?  Hallelujah!

Thought: Regenerated Christians are the only folk who can hear with our hearts, and SEE with a ‘sanctified imagination’ – all the wonders of a truly Sovereign Lord God.
