4. The Song of the ‘Fixed Heart’ Psalm 57:7-11

Text: “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.  Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.”

Psalm 57:7-8.

Good morning, ‘Fixed Heart’ Christian!  Like the author, once your heart was as black in sin as coal; as fixed on sin and disobedience to the Lord God, as Satan’s was when he was tossed, unceremoniously, out of the Holy realm of Heaven.  If any heart, soul, and mind needed fixing, it was yours and certainly it was MINE.  Praise God, we are Eternally fixed!

“Therefore (a conclusion) if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old thingss are passed (or passing) away; behold (look closely, and fully understand), all things are become (or are becoming) new.  And all things are of God, Who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation (between a Holy God and sinful mankind).”   (2 Corinthians 5:17-18)

‘Fixed heart Christians’ have been chosen by God in Eternity; given to Christ Jesus as a gift of the Father’s grace; saved in time, by the quickening power of God the Holy Spirit; and keep for all Eternity – safe in Christ Jesus, our Redeemer King.  Hallelujah!  Now, if that doesn’t ‘FIX’ us, nothing else ever will!  Glory to the grace of God!  Thank you, dear Lord!  (John 6:37) (John 17:9-11)

Verse 7.  “My heart is fixed.  In order to be Spiritually ‘fixed’, one must have first been Spiritually quickened - made alive to the fact that one was indeed, irreparably BROKEN.  Only God the Spirit can make alive that which is/was totally ‘...dead in trespasses and sins...’  We have God’s own inspired Word on this vital matter.  Check it out, Christian!

“And you hath He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins...even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened (made alive) us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in Heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”  (Ephesians 2:1-6)

Having one’s heart (entire essence of being) ‘FIXED’, is in itself a miracle performed by God, no mere mortal could ever achieve the Spiritual regeneration of the spirit/soul of sinful mankind.  The Lord Jesus Christ called this regeneration miracle, being 'BORN AGAIN'.

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily (truly, truly), I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God...Except a man be born of water (human birth) and of the Spirit (Spiritual quickening, being made alive by God the Holy Ghost), he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit (capital S) is spirit.  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye MUST be born again.”   (John 3:3-8)

The Lord God ‘fixes’ our hearts (our entire essence and being) by the miracle of Spiritual regeneration – we are MADE ‘...new creatures...’ in Christ; we become an integral part of His Body, the true church – worldwide, universal, and international.  Praise God for His grace!

Verse 7. “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.”  The heart that is Eternally fixed by the Lord God will immediately give God all the praise, all the glory, and all the service to Christ it can give.  Praise is the uplifting of the ‘fixed heart’ unto the Creator Lord God Jehovah Who has shown us such Eternally ‘fixing’ grace!

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, let any man should boast.  For we are His workmanship, CREATED in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before (before the very foundation of the world!) ordained that we should walk in them.”  Ephesians 2:8-10)

‘Fixed heart’ Christians immediately come to the vile attentions of Satan and the powers of evil – a Spiritual battle commences once a precious soul, by God’s grace, becomes born again of the Spirit.  We are called to be ‘soldiers’ of Christ from the moment we are redeemed from sin.  However, we should never be afraid of Satan or evil, for our Saviour, King Jesus Christ, King of all kings, and Lord of all lords, has completely FIXED our hearts, and stands ever-ready to come to our aid.  Wow!  What a Friend we have in Jesus!

“He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.”       (Psalm 112:7)

Verse 7.  “My heart is fixed.  One would have thought he would have said, ‘My heart is fluttered’; but no, he is calm, firm, happy, resolute, established.  When our great bower anchor holds, the ship cannot drive.”  (C.H. Spurgeon, Treasury of David, page 257)

Verse 7.  “O God, my heart is fixed.  I am resolved to trust Thee, to serve Thee, and to praise Thee.  Twice does he declare this to the glory of God, Who thus comforts the souls of His servants.  Reader, it is surely well with thee if thy once roving heart is now firmly fixed upon God and the proclamation of His glory.”  (C.H. Spurgeon, Treasury of David, page 257)

Verse 8.  “Awake up my glory; awake psaltery and harp.  Once realising that one’s heart is Eternally ‘fixed’ by God, how can one fail to rise up and give loud and vocal praise and thanksgiving to the Holy One Who has seen fit to fix us?  Let me hear it?  ‘Hallelujah!’

Verse 9.  “I will sing unto Thee among the nations.  When human hearts, fallen in sin and born in iniquity, are Eternally ‘fixed’ by being washed in the precious, sinless Blood of Christ the Lamb – it will inevitably inspire us to sing out the Gospel news to all men and women throughout the nations of this old world – that they too, upon hearing of Christ’s Salvation, might, according to God’s Divine grace and election, have their hearts ‘fixed also.  The ‘fixed’ heart always desires other hearts to be likewise ‘fixed’ by the Lord Jesus Christ.

Verse 10.  “For Thy mercy is great.  The Holy Lord God was under absolutely no obligation to redeem our progenitors - Adam and Eve – from their fall into sin and disobedience to His Word.  (Genesis 3: 21) But, by His grace, He did.  God had no obligation to save any soul, when He unleashed His wrath against sin on earth, by a great Flood.  But He did, He saved eight precious souls who would repopulate the earth which He had Created. (Genesis 6:5-22)

God was under no obligation to save you and I from our vile sins and disobedience to His Commandments and to His Holiness.  But, praise God, He did.  I believe that each of us who have been born again by God’s grace, and saved by His Son, Jesus Christ, know in our ‘fixed hearts’, that Almighty God’s mercy is, indeed, GREAT.  Praise His Holy Name!  ‘We thank you from our ‘fixed hearts’, precious Lord God!

Verse 11.  “Be Thou exalted, O God, above the Heavens: let Thy glory be above all the earth.  Greater words of prayer than these never came from human lips.  Heaven and earth have, as they imply, a mutually interwoven history, and the blessed, glorious end of this is the sunrise of the Divine glory over both.”  (Franz Delitzsch 1871)

Thought: Every true Christian should, be striving to be like the Christ.  Such Christians shall have trouble in life – but always receive help from the Lord of all life.  Praise and bless His Holy Name!
