Our God FOREVER! Psalm 48:9-14

Text: “For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even unto death.”

Psalm 48:14.

“...Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

Matthew 28:20.

Good morning, Christian child of the Triune Lord God!  You were born in sin and, in iniquity, you and I were humanly conceived.  But, praise God, we have been recreated in Christ Jesus as new creatures; His creation - to be adopted children of His promise, and heirs of Eternal Heaven.  Glory to the Lamb Who was slain to redeem us by His sinless Blood!  Hallelujah!

“Behold (look and understand), I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.”  (Psalm 51:5)

“For we (born again believers) are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained (preordained!) that we should walk in them.”  (Ephesians 2:10)

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.”  (Psalm 19:14)

Verse 9.  “We have thought.  Holy men are thoughtful men; they do not suffer (allow) God’s wonders to pass before their eyes and melt into forgetfulness, but they meditate deeply upon them.”  (C.H. Spurgeon, Treasury of David, page 226)

Dictionary Definition: Meditate. (verb intransitive) to consider thoughtfully (with, on, or upon); to engage in contemplation, especially religious contemplation; to consider deeply, reflect upon; to turn over in the mind...deep thought; serious continuous contemplation, especially on a religious or Spiritual theme...   (The Chambers Dictionary, page 998)

Let us ask ourselves many questions while studying God’s Word contained in our Bibles.  For in the asking, we shall receive the answers we need in order to more fully understand God’s will, as contained within the pages of His wonderful cannon of Holy Scriptures.

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God (God-breathed), and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man/woman of God may be perfect (mature) thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”  (2 Timothy 4:16-17)

Verse 9. “Thought of Thy loving kindness, O God. The Psalmist has not only been engaged in deep thinking, meditation on theological things (knowledge of God) – he has been thinking specifically of the loving kindness of God directed as it was/is towards total Hell-deserving sinners such as you and me!  Oh the awesome wonder of God’s free grace!

Verse 10. “According to Thy Name, O God, so is Thy praise unto the ends of the earth. The Name of God, Jehovah, the great ‘I Am’, the triune (three-personed Lord God and Creator of Heaven and earth.), is the Name of Omnipotence – and, in Christ Jesus, the most powerful Name and Divine Authority in all Creation.  How terrible will be the place preserved in Hell’s realms, for those that have taken God’s Holy Name in vain, and used the Name of Christ Jesus as a swear-word!  I pray for repentance for those that have abused the very Name of our Thrice Holy Lord God of wrath against sin.  (Exodus 20:7)

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him (Christ Jesus), and given Him a Name which is above every name: that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow...and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”   (Philippians 2:9-11)

Verse 10: “Thy right hand is full of righteousness. Thy sceptre and Thy sword, thy government and Thy vengeance, are altogether just.  Thy hand is never empty, but full of energy, of bounty, and of equity.  Neither saint nor sinner shall find the Lord to be an empty- handed God.  He will in both cases deal out righteousness to the full: to the one, through Jesus, He will be just to forgive, to the other just to condemn.”  (C.H. “...Not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: that I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection...”  (Philippians 3:9-10)

Is it any wonder that our Holy Lord God of all righteousness, Who redeems gross sinners, should be praised ‘...unto the ends of the earth...’?  Hallelujah!  We praise Thee, Lord God!

Verse 13. “Mark ye well her bulwarks. The security of the people of God is not a doctrine to be kept in the background.  It may be safely taught, and frequently pondered.  Only to base hearts will that glorious truth prove harmful.  The sons of perdition make a stumbling-stone even of the Lord Jesus Himself; it is little wonder that they pervert the truth of God concerning the final perseverance of the saints.”  (C.H. Spurgeon, Treasury of David, page 225)

Verse 14. “This God is our God forever and ever. What a portion then is that of the believer!  The landlord cannot say of his fields, ‘These are mine forever and ever.’  The king cannot say of his crown, ‘This is mine forever and ever.’  These possessions shall soon change masters; these possessions shall soon mingle with the dust, and even the graves they shall occupy may not long be theirs.

“But it is the singular, the supreme happiness of every Christian to say, or to have the right to say, ‘This glorious God with all His Divine perfections is my God, forever and ever, and even death itself shall not separate me from His love.”  (George Burder 1838)

Thought: An Eternal Lord God only does Eternal things that last throughout all Eternity – trust Him, true Christian, His Salvation of us is Salvation Eternally secure in Christ Jesus.  Hallelujah!  For this God is our God forever and ever!
