5. The Lord is Not Asleep! Psalm 33:13-15

Text:  “The Lord looketh from Heaven; He beholdeth all the sons of men…He considereth all their works.”
                                                                                                              Psalm 33:13-15.

Good morning, God-conscious Christian!  Not for you and I the lackadaisical attitude of many in this increasingly apostate and unfaithful 21st Century ‘church’ of Jesus Christ.  No!  We are not living our lives as though the God of the Bible has somehow fallen asleep; has somehow began to wink at sin; somehow strangely forgotten His wrath against vileness and gross disobedience to His Commandments.  No!  Praise God, you and I are very conscious that the Lord God Almighty cannot fall asleep, nor can He forget His own perfect Holiness and wrath against all that falls short of perfect Christlikeness.   He has spoken, and His Word remains absolute truth.  Hallelujah!  Our God never changes, ever!

“God is not a man that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent (change His mind): hath He said, and shall He not do it?  Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?  Behold (look and see clearly), I have received commandment to bless: and He hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.”  (Numbers 23:19-20)

God detests all sin!  God loves Holiness and obedience to His Word!  God will not suddenly fall asleep or change His mind about mankind’s gross sin against Him.  Fact.

“And I will come near to you to judgement; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not Me, saith the Lord of hosts.  For I am the Lord (Jehovah), I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.  Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from Mine ordinances (Commandments), and have not kept them.  Return unto Me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts.  But ye said, Wherein shall we return?”  (Malachi 3:5-7)

God-conscious Christians are genuine, obedient, faithful Christian people - sinners saved (Spiritually regenerated) by God’s grace, manifested in Christ Jesus, the Son of God, and trusting completely in His one-time perfect Sacrifice for our vile sins on the Cross at Calvary, over two-thousand years ago.

Christianity, in practice, is defined merely as being Spiritually regenerated to be like Christ, to the very best of ones’ abilities, in the enabling power of God the Holy Spirit and according to God’s written Word.  Simple as that!  What is YOUR Christianity like?  What is MY Christianity like?  Are we Bible-based Christians at all?  Take heed!

Verse 13.  “The Lord looketh from Heaven; He beholdeth all the sons of men.”  Think not that God is mocked, fooled, or bluffed by mere outward appearance Christianity - the Lord God looks, and continues to look and examine our hearts.  Nothing short of the real deal Spiritually regenerate Christian faith will stand the test.

“A man may have his name set down in chronicles, yet be lost; wrought in durable marble, yet perish; set upon a monument equal to a Colossus, yet be ignominious; inscribed on the hospital gates, yet go to Hell; written in the front of his own house, yet another come to possess it; all these are but writings in the dust, or upon the waters, where the characters perish so soon as they are made; they no more prove a man happy than the fool could prove Pontius Pilate happy because his name was written in the Creed.

“But the true comfort is this, when a man by assurance can conclude with his own soul that his name is written in those Eternal leaves of Heaven, in the book of God’s Election, which shall never be wrapped up in the cloudy sheets of darkness but remain legible to all Eternity.”  (Thomas Adams 1614)

God’s own Word is always more concise on this vital matter: “But as He which hath called you is Holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation (entire lifestyle); because it is written, Be ye holy for I am Holy.”  (1 Peter 1:15-16)

“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man/woman shall see the Lord.  (Hebrews 12:14)

Will the great Creator of the human brain fail to understand the thoughts, motives, and actions it manifests?  Never!  The Creator Lord God knows ALL our most secret motives and is in continual, unending surveillance of all whom He saves.

Verse 15.  “He considereth all their works.  Two men give to the poor, one seeketh his reward in Heaven, the other the praise of men.  Thou, in two, seest one thing; God understandeth two.  For He understandeth what is within, and knoweth what is within; their ends He seeth, their base intentions He seeth.  ‘He understandeth all their works.’”  (Augustine 354-430 AD)

As the Lord looks upon your heart and mine today, professing Christian believer, what does He see there?  Are our motives pure and Christ-seeking, or are they tainted with the sin of selfishness and self-promotion?  Sobering thoughts on this new day, what?

Thought:  The Lord God never slumbers nor sleeps - He is in full surveillance mode.  What act of obedience can you and I do to please Him today?
